Values

Our three College values of Respect, Friendship and Doing Your Best supports our commitment to a whole child approach to education. At Torquay College we believe that every child should be happy, healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged to grow in their educational environment

Respect
Right

To be treated with respect by students and staff.  To have targeted individual support where needed.  The right to value, celebrate and acknowledge diversity.

College Staff Responsibility

Develop an understanding of and respect for students as individuals.

Support the learning and well-being of students and fellow staff.

Student Responsibility

Treat others politely and with respect.  Respect the rights of others and be sensitive to difference.  Develop a positive relationship with the teacher and fellow students and learn and model self-discipline.

Parent Responsibility

Value opinions and show reciprocal respect.  Respect teacher’s attempts to problem solve and support teacher’s efforts.  Respect the learning needs of all students in the class and different teaching methods.

Friendship
Right

To look out for others and treat them with kindness.   To enjoy playing with others and working co-operatively. Invite children to play and really listen to what they say.

College Staff Responsibility

Encourage students to see school as an instrument for mutual understanding between individuals.  Inspire them to develop positive relationships in the school, care for each other and enjoy different friendships. Teach children that bullying is unacceptable.

Student Responsibility

Have fun and work with other students.  Help those in need and look out for each other.  Speak positively and show appreciation for what others do and achieve.  Do not put others down.  Enjoy a wide variety of friendships.  Do not accept or condone bullying.

Parent Responsibility

Support the notion that friendships are an integral part of school and support teachers by encouraging children to develop positive relationships in the school with a variety of friends.

Doing Your Best
Right

This means doing the best we can on the field of play or in our professional lives.  The important thing is not winning but taking part, making progress and enjoying the opportunities provided.

College Staff Responsibility

Teachers will teach in a variety of ways and understand that different children learn in different ways.  They will know where children are coming from and encourage each to always aim to achieve their personal best.  Teachers will celebrate success and hard work.

Student Responsibility

Students will try their personal best and will aim to make progress to achieve their own personal learning goals.  Students will work collaboratively and individually to the best of their ability.  Students will recognise and celebrate effort and success.

Parent Responsibility

Parents will encourage children to participate in all school activities to the best of their ability.  They will support teachers by encouraging their children to develop a positive relationship with learning and value doing your best.
