The Arts

The Arts program at Torquay College provides students from Foundation to Year 6 with rich opportunities to explore creativity, expression, and performance across Dance, Drama, Visual Art and Music, in alignment with the Victorian Curriculum.

Through explicit teaching and carefully sequenced learning experiences, students develop skills to create, present, respond to and reflect on artworks in a variety of forms.
Students learn to express ideas, tell stories, and communicate meaning using movement, voice, sound, and visual media, while building confidence and a strong sense of personal and collective identity.

Students engage in:

    • Dance, exploring movement, rhythm, and expression
    • Drama, developing storytelling, role-play, collaboration, and performance skills
    • Visual Art, using a range of materials, techniques, and processes to create and respond to artworks
    • Music, learning rhythm, pitch, performance, and appreciation through singing, instrumental work, and listening.

The Arts are a vibrant part of school life, with students having opportunities to showcase their talents through key events across the year.
These include the whole-school production in Term 3, participation in school bands, performances at the Torquay College Festival, and a student talent showcase that celebrates creativity, confidence, and student voice.

Through The Arts, students develop imagination, resilience, collaboration, and expressive skills, while learning to appreciate diverse cultures and perspectives.
The program supports student agency by providing opportunities for choice, creativity, and authentic performance, helping students grow as confident, capable, and creative learners.
